Wednesday

Amos 1-3; Matthew 13

Thursday

Amos 4-6; Psalm 55; Matthew 14

Amos 7-9; Matthew 15

 

2 Kings were written by Jeremiah to the Israelites in Palestine.

·       2 Kings 14 – during this time, many of the prophets wrote, including Hosea, Amos, Jonah, Micah, and Isaiah.

 

2 Chronicles was written by Ezra to Israel.

 

Jonah was written by Jonah to Israel.

·       Jonah 2 – Notice that this is a prayer of thanksgiving, not one of deliverance.

 

Amos was written by Amos to Israel (the Northern Kingdom).

·       Amos 5:8 – Some constellations are named in the Bible.

   

Matthew was written by Matthew to Greek speaking Jews.

·       Matthew 13:32 – While not the smallest seed, it was the smallest seed that was known to these people.

Submission in Marriage (1 Peter 3:1-7)

·       Wives are to submit to their husbands, showing their inner beauty, like Sarah.

·       Husbands are to dwell with their wives, honoring them and treating them right, so that our prayers are not hindered.

Matthew was written by Matthew to Greek speaking Jews.

·       Matthew 10:3 – Bartholomew is the same person as Nathaniel and Thaddaes is the same person as Judas, son of James.

·       Jesus submitted to the Father's Will.

·       1 Kings 13:2 – this was fulfilled 200 years later in 2 Kings 23:1-20.

·       1 Kings 16:7 – this verse foreshadows that Elah's reign was doomed from the start.

 

2 Chronicles was written by Ezra to Israel.

        

Titus was written by Paul to Titus, a Greek man.

 

Philemon was written by Paul to Philemon about his runaway slave named Onesimus.

·       Philemon vs. 10-11 – Paul is using a play on Onesimus' name, which means "useful." He pleads with Philemon since a master could kill a runaway slave.

 

Jude was written by Jude to Jewish Christians from Jerusalem.

·       Jude vs. 14 – this comes from the apocryphal book called the Book of Enoch.
