Here are the Bible readings for this upcoming week. Feel free to read the entire thing, just the NT, or just the OT:

Isaiah was written by Isaiah to Israel. The first 39 chapters were written about 700 B.C. The rest was written about 681 B.C.

·       Isaiah 10:28 – This is the path the Assyrians would take in conquering Israel.

 

Matthew was written by Matthew to Greek speaking Jews.

·       Matthew 26:30 – This hymn was probably Psalm 115-118, which was typically sung after a meal.

 

1 Corinthians was written by Paul to the Corinthian church.

·       Paul started this church on his 2nd missionary journey.

·       1 Cor. 1:12 – Those who followed Apollos were Greeks and those who followed Cephas (Peter) were Jews.

Sunday, August 19 – For discipleship training, the youth will be in the old Fellowship Hall and the adults will be in the new Fellowship Hall. We'll do this for at least a couple of weeks.

 

Wednesday, August 29 – Senior / Church Trip to Gravy's Southern Eatery next to Sunset Beach. We will leave the church at 9:45am. Great Food, Great Fellowship: Everyone Welcome.

 

Saturday, September 1 – Back to School Bash from 11am to 3pm. Please sign up.

 

Sunday, September 2 – We will be taking up the North Carolina Missions Offering.

Sermon Highlights

 

Be Prepared To Suffer For God (1 Peter 4:12-19)

 

- Expect Persecution when we are following Christ – don't think it strange.

- Rejoice in Persecution – God can and will use it to strengthen us.

- Examine our Life in light of the persecution.

- Commit ourselves to God – to continue to do good as He commands.
